About

The idea of making this chess set, first came to me, almost 50 years ago, while working as a Flight Attendant for Transworld Airlines. I was on a layover in Philadelphia, out looking for a bookstore when I saw the most amazing chess set being displayed in its window. I couldn't wait to get inside to take a closer look. Once inside, I soon realized that I could not afford to buy it and so I decided right then and there that I would make one of my own. I immediately left the bookstore, went directly to an art supply store and bought 10 pounds of clay. It didn't seem to matter that I lived in California where there were plenty of art supply stores.

Although conceived almost 50 years ago, Cole Chess is a true testament to the atmosphere in America, today. It is a time when people of color are being forced to fight against the dominant oppression of the white race and its white supremacy. This is a multicultural and multiracial country. Its citizens includes the Native American, the African American, the Asian American and all other people of color. Our democracy is in dire peril and we must do all we can to keep it!

The chess pieces are hand molded and sculptured into statuesque forms with expressions, personalities and human features. Each piece is cast into perfect plaster from hand made molds. Hand painted and decorated with crystals, faux pearls, gems, beadings, tassels and trims, makes it a praiseworthy chess set fit for royalty.

*I am a retired Flight Attendant and former Decorator Consultant and have had no formal art training. Throughout the years, I have sold some of my paintings, designed elves for a Santa's Village, started a brief business rennovating vintage mannequins and have designed a collection of religious cards with matching prints for sale.
